Questions about Surf ID

Does Surf ID need batteries?

No. The tag and the stickers don't use batteries, and there's nothing to charge. A phone with an internet connection is what opens the page.

Do I need an app?

No. Anyone can scan with a phone camera. There's no Surf ID app to download.

What happens when someone scans my tag?

If it's registered and active, they open the page you set up. If it isn't set up yet, the page invites the owner to make it theirs. A scan by itself does not claim the Surf ID, and it does not replace emergency services or a medical ID.

What information will people see?

A name, an emergency contact, a phone number, and a medical note if you chose to add one. You decide what's on the page.

Can I update my emergency contacts?

Yes. On a registered Surf ID, you can change the name, emergency contact, phone number, and medical note from your account.

Will the tag work with my wetsuit?

It clips onto a zipper pull, so it hangs on a wetsuit that has a zipper. It also clips to a bag or a key ring.

Can I organize multiple surfboards?

Each sticker has its own code. Register them to your account and they show up together, so you can see the boards you've set up.

Are the stickers waterproof?

They're meant to live on a board and be scanned if it's found. We don't publish a waterproof rating.

What happens if I lose a tag?

Deactivate that code from your account. A scan of an inactive Surf ID does not show the profile.
